Wellington Region Earthquakes: Seven Islands

Wellington has a notorious history of having large earthquakes, especially over the last few years. A faultline runs almost directly through Wellington as seen below.
A recent article on stuff.co.nz details the findings of the possible scenario of the Wellington region being split up in to multiple 'islands' or sections if a large earthquake hit. This would cut transport link between each area for several months preventing supplies from being driven in.
This could be an interesting scenario to explore a future climate change ravaged Wellington. it would add a good twist and it is something relatable to all Wellingtonians, and even those from other parts of New Zealand (Christchurch).
I can imagine certain 'factions' being created from each island, and depending on the Wealth of each island they can cope differently.
